Creating a budget for your move is one of the most important things that you can do to make sure that your move goes smoothly. You can look at a budget to see all of the money you will need to complete your move. You will also be able to catch problem areas where you might be able to save some money. No matter how far you are moving, you should always complete a moving budget first.
What to Include
You should strive to include everything applicable into your moving budget. The biggest cost included will probably be the cost of your moving company or truck rental that you will be using to actually transport your things. Put this cost at the top of your budget.
Include any food and drinks, as well as hotel costs and airfare that you might incur depending on how you are going to move. Moving with a truck rental will also incur fuel costs, so make sure that you plan accordingly. Don’t forget to include the cost of your moving help either. You need to provide drinks and possibly food for those who are going to help you move. Make sure to put this in your budget.
Tipping professional movers is generally a good idea as well, and you should budget this into your costs. The amount will vary depending on the type of move you have and how much work the movers actually do. You can figure in a percentage of the cost or you can set an amount like fifty dollars. Either way is fine, but you need to take this into account when you are making your budget.
Remember…
Don’t forget to include emergency money in your budget as well. This will help you weather any unforeseen events that might occur along the way. There will always be things that come up unexpectedly. Emergency funds help people continue without suffering too much of a setback.
Make sure that you write every little thing down. Don’t consider something too small for your budget. Include it all on paper. This will give you a good idea of the big picture, and it will let you view the little things that might be cut in order to save money in the long run. You should allow other family members to look over this budget as well in order to see things that you might have missed.
When complete, stick to the budget that you have created. This is the only way to make sure that you have enough money to cover your move without taking needed funds from other daily needs. Finally, post the budget in a central location so that anyone in the family can see it and make suggestions as needed.
